Vehicle description

Chassis No. 185342074 With more than just updated styling for 1940, the Ford Station Wagons offered increased passenger comfort, interior space, and numerous mechanical improvements. The De Luxe models offered additional trim and finish work, including a finer finish of the select grain hard maple and birch bodywork with a high varnish finish. This excellent combination of style and utility makes it appropriately set for use at grand country estates, resorts, country clubs, or simply running errands. With room for up to eight people, the car was ideally suited to transport people and their luggage from the airport, train station, or pier for any occasion. Today, these timeless station wagons remain beloved by enthusiasts and collectors alike for the same reasons as when they were new. This lovely De Luxe Station Wagon was restored in Black, one of the six colors originally offered. It provides an excellent contrast with the beautiful maple wood frame with birch panels. Inside, the interior is finished in saddle leather with brown carpets and binding. Powering the car is a modern Ford 302 cu-in V8 mated to an automatic transmission. For added braking confidence, the car is upgraded with four-wheel disc brakes. It also benefits from a replacement tilting steering column with electric power steering and Vintage Air air conditioning for increased comfort and convenience. Completing the detailed restoration of this Woodie is the rear-mounted spare wheel in a hard metal cover, painted steel wheels with chrome trim rings, De Luxe script hubcaps, whitewall tires, and bumper-mounted fog lights. Restored by a collector from the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada, the current owner, a noted Southern California collector of European and American classics, purchased the car after being so impressed by its level of detail and desirable upgrades. The car has remained in climate-controlled storage with continual service work rendered by the in-house mechanic. As presented, this charming Woodie is an ideal form of effortlessly enjoyable transportation for family outings and car shows and remains a captivating icon of its era.
